Clarence W. Hord, Sr.

Clarence W. Hord, Sr. was born January 31, 1877 in Goliad, Texas and died August 9, 1953.

Hord moved to Alpine in 1889 to work cattle for ranchers in the area. He married Otho Bunton in 1903 and they had one son. In September of 1911 he married Oralia Coler and in 1912 he opened a grocery store in Alpine. In 1922 he was elected to County Commissioner, Pct. .1

In 1943 he was elected Sheriff of Brewster County, and in 1948 when he decided to retire he encouraged Deputy Jim Skinner to run for the office of Sheriff.
