Francis Patrick Rooney

Francis Patrick Rooney was born October 3, 1899 in Marathon, Texas and died April 10, 1992 in Marathon, Texas.

Rooney married Sybil Sansom on
January 19, 1922 and they moved to El Paso, Texas, where he worked as a City Policeman for seven years alongside Tom Three Persons.

The Rooney’s welcomed a son, Pat, in May 1926. In 1929 the family moved back to Marathon where Rooney worked for the Gage Ranch for 17 years. The Rooney family moved again, starting on their own and lived close to the Rio Grande, along the Maravillas for a few years before they
joined family north of Candalaria and then moved to what is now known as the Coal Mine Ranch.

In the 1960’s, Rooney became a Deputy for Presidio County. He was appointed Sheriff and then elected Sheriff and served until 1973. He resided in Marathon with family until he passed in 1992.
